Washington – A new $100 banknote is set to be launched by the United States this week. As reported by AFP, the new banknote is expected to make a debut on Tuesday, and will include special features to ward off counterfeiters.

Sonja Danburg, program manager in charge of currency education at the Federal Reserve, is quoted by AFP as stating of the banknote’s design, “It’s our most global banknote. Between a half and two-thirds of them are circulating outside of the United States, and it’s also the most counterfeited of US denominations outside of the United States.

“We want to stay ahead of counterfeiting threats, we want to protect the public.”

The new banknote will be the first remake of the $100 bill since 1996.
