Los Angeles – Singer Ariana Grande is being sued over her hit song “The Way” for purported copyright infringement. As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the 20-year-old star along with Sony/ATV, UMG Recordings and others have been named in the lawsuit filed by UK entity Minder Music.

The lawsuit alleges that the song, which spent weeks on top music charts this year, misused a line taken from the popular 1972 disco hit, “Troglodyte,” recorded by The Jimmy Castor Bunch.

As noted in the report, Minder Music is seeking statutory damages of $150,000 per infringement, a declaration of willful infringement, and attorneys’ fees among other things in the case.
