Three-Vehicle Crash Critically Injured Mass. Woman in Upstate NY

Amenia, NY — A three-vehicle accident has injured four people, including a western Massachusetts woman who was critically injured, when an independent FedEx contractor slammed into the back of a vehicle on Tuesday, April 3, 2012, the Wall Street Journal reports.

According to troopers, a van operated by an independent FedEx contractor crashed into the back of a car around 4 p.m., as it was slowing down to turn into a driveway in Amenia.

The impact of the collision catapulted the car into oncoming traffic, where it crashed into another vehicle.

Responding emergency crews rushed a passenger in the second car, Allana Lewis, 27, of Pittsfield, Mass., to Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield where she is in critical condition.

Three others were also injured in the crash. They reportedly sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The identities of the other injured victims are being withheld. It was not reported if they were also transported to an area hospital.

The driver of the van was cited for following too closely.
