New Jersey Man Killed by Lift in West York Construction Accident

West York, PA — A construction accident at a West York site left a New Jersey man dead Friday, November 11, 2011. The fatal workplace accident occurred at the former Keystone Weaving Mill at around 11:30 a.m., reported the York Daily Record.

According to officials, 20-year-old Patricio Munoz was operating a Pettibone lift when the 30,000-pound machinery began to sway. Munoz tried to get out of the lift’s operator compartment and was subsequently hit by the lift’s large arm.

Police reported if Munoz had remained in the cab of the Pettibone, there would have been safety restraints to protect him.

Responding emergency crews pronounced Munoz dead at the scene of the construction accident.

Munoz was working as a roofer for subcontractor FM Home Improvement of Danville, N.J.

Investigators with the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are looking into the fatal construction accident.

Police believe the death was an accident.
