Hungary – A former Fort Worth councilwoman and her husband were killed in a car crash in Hungary recently. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported that Cathy Hirt and her husband, Darrell had been traveling through Europe on vacation at the time.

The couple was reportedly on their way back to their hotel when a truck collided with the taxi they were riding in. The taxi driver was also killed.

Mary Kay Hughes, a longtime friend of Cathy Hirt, is quoted as stating of the couple’s deaths “I think the whole Fort Worth community is grieving and praying for the family… We are devastated for the loss.”

Both had been highly regarded for their community work in Fort Worth, which included Cathy Hirt serving on the city council and Darrell Hirt being a respected kidney doctor in the city.

Debby Stein, Mrs. Hirt’s former council aide, said of the former councilwoman “She was a wonderful woman who gave so much to the community, She was a great friend; definitely someone we will miss greatly.”
