France – A reported 150 people were killed in a recent plane crash in the French Alps. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Germanwings Flight 9525 did not issue a distress call prior to taking a dive halfway through the flight, and crashing into the mountain.
The flight was reportedly en route from Spain to Germany. The victims of the crash included several German high school students and their teachers. The crash is stated to be the deadliest to have occurred in France in decades.
Gilbert Sauvan, president of the general council, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, is quoted as stating to the AP of the crash, “Everything is pulverized. The largest pieces of debris are the size of a small car. No one can access the site from the ground.”
German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier is further quoted as stating, “The site is a picture of horror. The grief of the families and friends is immeasurable…We must now stand together. We are united in our great grief.”
A black box has been found from the Airbus A320. Authorities are still investigating the circumstances of the crash.
