California – Political satirist Stephen Colbert is preparing to take over for “The Late Show” host David Letterman following the end of his Comedy Central show the “Colbert Report.” As reported by WebProNews, the comedian ended his show’s run in song, and pretended to become immortal in a staged farewell scene.

Accompanied by several characters on stage, Colbert is quoted as signing off stating, “We’ve finally come to the end of ‘The Colbert Report.’ Nine great years, 1,447 wonderful episodes–I’ve just got too many people to thank. So I’ll just thank Mavis Staples. Mavis, if you could just call everybody tomorrow, that would be great. OK, that’s the show. From eternity, I’m Stephen Colbert.”

Colbert will take over for Letterman following the nighttime talk show host’s 2015 retirement.
