Russia – Former United States intelligence operative Edward Snowden has been granted extended residency in Russia. As reported by AFP, the 31-year-old fugitive who was previously granted leave to stay in the country, was recently approved to receive a three-year residence permit.

Snowden is wanted in the U.S. for charges of espionage. His attorney in Russia, Anatoly Kucherena, is quoted as stating to journalists about the acceptance of his residency request, “The request was accepted and accordingly Edward Snowden was given a three-year residence permit… In the future Edward will have to decide whether to continue to live in Russia and become a citizen or to return to the United States.”

The lawyer further noted that Snowden is “working in his profession” in Moscow.
