Chicago, IL — A Metra train hit and killed a female pedestrian on Chicago’s far South Side Wednesday morning, March 7, 2012. The fatal train accident occurred around 7 a.m. at the Long Wood Manor Station at 95th and Vincennes, reported ABC7Chicago.com.

According to reports the female pedestrian was walking east on 95th, as the train was headed south, when she was fatally hit.

The outbound Rock Island train was only transporting crew at the time of the crash.

Witnesses told ABC7Chicgao that the woman was wearing earphones and just didn’t see the train coming.

The identity of the female pedestrian is being withheld at this time.

There are no pedestrian crossing arms at that crossing, but there are arms, lights and bells that alert drivers of the incoming train.

Metra says their equipment was working properly.

Investigations into the fatal train accident are underway.
