Detroit – An angry outburst during a soccer match has resulted in the death of a referee. As reported by the Detroit Free Press, 44-year-old John Bieniewicz, a married father of two sons, was declared dead this week following a game Sunday during which he was punched by an angry player and knocked unconscious.

According to witnesses, Bieniewicz was hit prior to issuing a second violation against the player accused of throwing the punch, Abdul-Amir Saad, who had complained about a call made during a match.

Saad has been charged with felony assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder on Monday. Maria Miller, a spokeswoman with the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, is quoted as stating of possible changes due to the recent declaration regarding Bieniewicz’s death, “The charges will be reviewed and amended when appropriate confirmations are made and other necessary documentation is received”
