Atlanta – A police device severely burned a toddler during a recent drug raid in Atlanta. As reported by Reuters, the child was in an Atlanta area hospital fighting for his life Friday following the incident on Wednesday.
According to Habersham County Sheriff Joey Terrell, an undercover officer had made a methamphetamine purchase from someone who resided at the home. Police returned with plans to make an arrest during a “no-knock” raid. A “flash bang” grenade that police tossed into the house during the raid landed in the child’s playpen. The toddler was sleeping in it at the time.
Terrell is quoted by Reuters as stating of the incident, “They opened it up just enough to get the flash bang in… All the information we had was that there were no children in the house. All you can do is pray for the child, pray for the family, pray for the officers.”
Hospital officials had not released any information about the child’s condition at the time of the report.
