Washington – New rules have been proposed by the Obama administration for cutting out junk food advertisements on school grounds. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), in accordance with the Agriculture Department rules, marketing of food on school campuses would be tailored to match current health standards for food public schools serve.

First Lady Michelle Obama is quoted as stating of the proposed rules at the White House this week, “This new approach to eating and activity is not just a fad.”

The new rules would apply to advertising on scoreboards at school sporting events such as basketball games, vending machines, cups, menu boards, and more.

According to the Agriculture Department, $149 million a year is spent by companies in marketing sugary drinks and other products to kids in schools.
