Tennessee – The trial of a couple accused of killing a 5-year-old girl by forcing her to drink large amounts of soda has been set. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the trial of Randall and Mary Vaughn, who were arraigned on Friday, is set to begin in October.

The couple stands accused of forcing Alexa Linboom, the daughter of Randall Vaughn, to drink approximately 2.4 liters of grape soda and water as a punishment over the course of one to two hours. The intake of the liquid reportedly led to brain swelling and herniating for the young girl.

The Vaughns face charges of murder, abuse and neglect in connection with the child’s death.
