Phoenix – A 14-year-old boy was killed in a recent crash while driving an SUV. As reported by the Associated Press, authorities say the teen hit a brick wall after attempting to flee police.

The report says that police were called to the scene of a reported fight in the early hours of Wednesday morning. The didn’t find anyone fighting; however, they saw the SUV driving in the neighborhood slowly with its lights off. They subsequently turned on their emergency lights after the vehicle sped away.

While searching for the vehicle, officers say they heard tires squealing and discovered the accident. The vehicle had reportedly driven through the yards of multiple homes and damaged landscaping and utilities prior to hitting a wall.

Officer James Holmes, a Phoenix police spokesman, is quoted as stating of the incident “This is not the first time teens have taken their parents' cars without permission and done things like this. This is certainly not the first time we've had a tragic result, but certainly a lesson learned for our kids and our teenagers out there that sometimes when you do bad things, bad things happen.”

Three other teen passengers were also in the vehicle at the time.
