Texas Woman Dies – Drunk Driving Accident Denison, TX

Denison, TX – A Texas woman was killed in a suspected drunk driving accident while trying to help a turtle safely cross the street. NBC News reported that a man is being held in the death of Lizette Lopez, 20, of Sherman.

Lopez was traveling with relatives in her vehicle when they pulled over onto the shoulder of Texoma Parkway. The family was in Denison near the border of Oklahoma at the time.

Yuseth Johnson, a cousin of Lopez stated to NBC station KTEN of Denison of the incident “She saw a turtle on the road, and of course she has a big heart, so they pulled over, she got out of the car, and she tried to move it, and then that's when she got hit.” Lopez was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

The driver of the vehicle that hit Lopez has been identified as 32-year-old Clyde Randall Stanbery. Stanbery reportedly drove off from the scene and then crashed into a ditch near an apartment complex. Police said he attempted to carjack another driver unsuccessfully.

Stanbery has been charged on multiple counts including intoxicated manslaughter with a vehicle and causing an accident involving death.
