South Carolina – A white South Carolina police officer has been accused of murdering a black motorist. Officials charged City Patrolman Michael Thomas Slager within hours after viewing a video which appears to show a fleeing black man being shot in the back by Slager several times.

North Charleston Mayor Keith Summey recently announced the charges during a press conference, where he referred to the officer’s actions as “a bad decision” according to an Associated Press (AP) report.

The incident occurred following a routine traffic stop that was reportedly over a faulty break light. The shooting victim, 50-year-old Walter Lamer Scott, was shot after already having been hit with a stun gun according to reports.

Summey stated during the press conference, “When you’re wrong, you’re wrong… When you make a bad decision, don’t care if you’re behind the shield or a citizen on the street, you have to live with that decision.”

A video of the shooting has been released to multiple news outlets.
