Dallas – A Texas DPS trooper was reprimanded for posing in a photo with rapper Snoop Dogg. According to a Dallas Morning News report, officials from the Department of Public Safety saw the photo of the rapper and Trooper Billy Spears together posted on social media and are now requiring Spears to undergo counseling.

Spears is being represented by Attorney Ty Clevenger who said he is drawing attention to the matter publicly because there is no other recourse available for his client than to accept the disciplinary action.

The counseling reprimand is quoted as reading, “While working a secondary employment job, Trooper Spears took a photo with a public figure who has a well-known criminal background including numerous drug charges. The public figure posted the photo on social media and it reflects poorly on the Agency.”

Spears reportedly agreed to Snoop Dogg’s request to take the photo while working at the South by Southwest musical festival in Austin. The rapper later posted the photo on Instagram along with the caption, “Me n my deputy dogg.”

Clevenger has stated that he sent a letter to DPS director Steven McCraw requesting the reprimand be removed. The attorney said of the issue, “This is not in their policy. They’re making this stuff up as they go.”

According to Clevenger, Snoop Dogg’s publicist took the photo.
