California – Actress Angelina Jolie recently underwent preventative surgery to have her ovaries and fallopian tubes removed. As reported by WebProNews, the actress is stated to have made the decision after being told by doctors that they detected possible early signs of cancer.

Jolie wrote an op-ed piece for the New York Times about her decision titled “Angelina Jolie Pitt: Diary of a Surgery.” The star’s mother passed away from cancer in 2007 at age 56. Jolie subsequently underwent a double mastectomy.

Jolie wrote of her decision in the article, “In my case, the Eastern and Western doctors I met agreed that surgery to remove my tubes and ovaries was the best option, because on top of the BRCA gene, three women in my family have died from cancer.”

She further wrote, “I will not be able to have any more children, and I expect some physical changes. But I feel at ease with whatever will come, not because I am strong but because this is a part of life. It is nothing to be feared.”
