Los Angeles – Singer Elton John is leading the charge to boycott designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana over controversial statements the duo made regarding children being raised by gay couples. As reported by WebProNews, the designers, who are both gay, expressed their belief in an interview that gay couples should not raise children.
Dolce and Gabbana were quoted as stating in an interview with Italian publication Panorama Magazine, “We oppose gay adoptions. The only family is the traditional one…The family is not a fad. In it is a supernatunal sense of belonging.”
John subsequently posted a photo of him with his husband David Furnish and their two children on social media with the caption, “How dare you refer to my beautiful children as “synthetic”. And shame on you for wagging your judgemental little fingers at IVF – a miracle that has allowed legions of loving people, both straight and gay, to fulfil their dream of having children. Your archaic thinking is out of step with the times, just like your fashions. I shall never wear Dolce and Gabbana ever again. #BoycottDolceGabbana.”
Other celebrities have also pledged to boycott D&G standing behind John including Ricky Martin and Courtney Love.
