New York – Fox News political commentator Bill O’Reilly has been accused of exaggerating a report on the Falklands War early on in his career. As reported by WebProNews, the host of “The O’Reilly Factor” has called the allegations a smear campaign by liberals.

O’Reilly is quoted as stating in response to a question about his view of the Falklands as a war zone, “When you have soldiers and military police firing into the crowed and you have people who are injured and hurt and you are in the middle of that, that (a war zone) is the definition.”

Retired CBS News correspondent, Eric Engberg, subsequently posted on social media disputing O’Reilly’s reporting stating, “We — meaning the American networks — were all in the same, modern hotel and we never saw any troops, casualties or weapons… It was not a war zone or even close. It was an ‘expense account zone.’”

As noted by WebProNews, others have also refuted O’Reilly’s story of the events, which also included the claim that he assisted in getting a cameraman who had become injured to safety.
