Louisiana – Phil Robertson, who is the father on the famed Duck Dynasty reality show, made headlines over a year ago for making controversial anti-gay remarks.

According to WebProNews, Robertson is now set to be rewarded for those remarks. He is listed to receive the Andrew Breitbart Defender of the First Amendment Award for free speech. The award will be presented to Robertson at the 2015 Conservative Political Action Conference, which is also referred to as CPAC. The political event is highly popular with Conservatives.

Last year’s recipient of the award was author and conservative talk show host Mark Levin.

As reported by WebProNews, Robertson caused a lot of controversy when he made the following statements, “It seems like, to me, a vagina—as a man—would be more desirable than a man’s anus. That’s just me. I’m just thinking: There’s more there! She’s got more to offer. I mean, come on, dudes! You know what I’m saying? But hey, sin: It’s not logical, my man. It’s just not logical.”

Although A&E suspended Robertson from the popular show, the suspension was lifted after a public outcry from his fans.

Robertson stood by his statements saying, “When one does not have the freedom to speak out loud and anywhere what one believes, freedom is dead.”
