New York – Singer Lesley Gore, who sung the hit 1960s song “It’s My Party” has died. As reported by WebProNews, the singer passed away from lung cancer in New York City. Gore was 68 years old.

Gore was 17 years old when she rose to fame as a pop singer. When speaking in a 2005 interview about her first hit song, she is quoted as stating “We recorded [it] on a Saturday afternoon, March 30, and I heard the record for the first time on April 6. I was driving to school, literally seven days later … so when it started getting played, we weren’t prepared for it. We didn’t even know it had been released.”

Gore transitioned to acting during her career and appeared as Pussycat on the popular Batman television series.

As noted by WebProNews, Gore is survived by her mother, a brother, and longtime partner Lois Sasson.
