San Francisco – Several people reportedly called 911 to report a recent Facebook and Instagram outage. As reported by CBS San Francisco, the actions led dispatchers in East Bay to make request that individuals only use the emergency service number for emergencies.

A dispatcher is quoted in the report as stating of the issue, “Our lines are [sic] dedicated to handle life and death calls, and even though Facebook is important to a lot of people, it’s not a matter of life and death when it stops working.”

The dispatcher is further quoted as stating of one of the panicked callers seeking to get back access to their social media account following the temporary glitch, “One caller even called back to tell me I was being rude because I told her it wasn’t a life threatening emergency.”

The outage is stated to have lasted for about an hour.
