Los Angeles – Actress Jessica Chastain says she received backlash from some fans after speaking about a lack of diversity in the film industry while giving an awards show acceptance speech. As reported by WebProNews, the actress who was awarded Most Valuable Player at the 2015 Critics’ Choice Awards, encouraged others to speak up about the need for diversity in film during her speech.

The “Zero Dark Thirty” star stated, “Today is Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday, so it got me thinking about our need to build the strength of diversity in our industry, and to stand together against homophobic, sexist, misogynistic, anti-Semitic and racist agendas.”

Chastain later said among the reactions she received for her speech were racial comments criticizing her, stating in a CBS News interview, “I’ve had really terrible people who are racists comment on the speech and say really terrible things. I’m understanding that some people in this world, how much hate they can have.”
