Boston – A Boston police officer is denying claims that he assaulted an Uber driver. As reported by The Boston Globe, the officer’s attorney stated that his client’s account of the altercation that took place was “very different” from the driver’s claims.

Authorities allege that Michael Doherty, 40, accused the driver of the vehicle of driving in the wrong direction and yelled at him. A passing motorist stopped to assist the unidentified driver and the officer is stated to have hurled racial slurs at him. He then reportedly drove from the scene in the Uber vehicle.

A police report says that Doherty attacked both of them after the two followed him.

Doherty has reportedly worked for the Boston Police Department for more than 16 years. He has been placed on administrative leave.
