Pennsylvania – Wal-Mart Stores Inc must pay $188 million to workers as ordered by a court ruling in a class action lawsuit. As reported by Reuters, the retail giant said Tuesday that it may appeal the recent decision of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.

The company was sued by employees who alleged they did not receive compensation for rest breaks or their total number of hours worked. Lower courts had also ruled in favor of the employees who brought forth the class action.

As noted in the report, the decision affects an estimated 187,000 employees who worked for Wal-Mart in Pennsylvania between 1998 and 2006.

Brooke Buchanan, a spokesperson for Wal-Mart, is quoted as stating in response to the lawsuit claims, “Walmart has had strong policies in place to make sure all associates receive their appropriate pay and break periods.”
