Mississippi – Two people were killed after a nine-year-old driver crashed during a police chase in Mississippi. As reported by Reuters, those who died in the accident were 13-year-old Justin Harrell and 3-year-old Brayden Traxler. The names of the driver and another 13-year-old passenger who both survived had not been released at the time of the report.

A Mississippi Highway Patrol officer began pursuing the 2003 Mercury Sable after seeing it had made a turn before stopping at mandatory checkpoint. The vehicle reportedly hit a utility pole after veering off the road and turning over during the pursuit.

The driver and other 13-year-old passenger were transported to the hospital for treatment.

Sergeant Andy West, a highway patrol spokesman, is quoted as stating of the accident, “Any accident that someone loses their life is tragic, but when you’re dealing with children it just makes it that much more tragic.”
