Montana – A Colorado man has been sentenced in the 2012 death of Montana school teacher Sherry Arnold. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Lester Van Waters Jr., 50, was sentenced to 80 years Monday after pleading guilty last year to deliberate homicide by accountability in Arnold’s death.

According to authorities, Waters and an accomplice killed Arnold, who was a math teacher at Sidney High School, while they attempted to abduct her as she was jogging a short distance from her home. The two had reportedly traveled from Colorado to Sidney in search for work in the oil fields along the border of Montana and North Dakota. Authorities say they admitted to using drugs throughout their travel.

Waters’ accomplice in the case, Michael Keith Spell, is still awaiting sentencing. He has pleaded guilty to deliberate homicide.
