New York – John P. Schmitt, an attorney representing comedian Bill Cosby, has released a statement for the first time following allegations that the entertainer sexually assaulted multiple women. As reported by ET Online, Schmitt made the statement on Cosby’s website.

Schmitt is quoted as writing, “Over the last several weeks, decade-old, discredited allegations against Mr. Cosby have resurfaced. The fact they are being repeated does not make them true.”

The statement further reads, “Mr. Cosby does not intend to dignify these allegations with any comment. He would like to thank all his fans for the outpouring of support and assure them that, at age 77, he is doing his best work. There will be no further statement from Mr. Cosby or any of his representatives.”

The comments were issued after one accuser Barbra Bowman questioned in a piece for the Washington Post why she wasn’t believed after coming forward with allegations that she had been raped by Cosby in 1985.
