New Zealand – A murder-for-hire charge filed against AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd has been dropped. As reported by WebProNews, some suggest that there had been “insufficient evidence” for authorities to have brought forth the charge from the beginning.

As noted in the report, Rudd was arrested on multiple charges in addition to being accused of attempting to put out a hit on two men. Rudd’s remaining charges include possession of methamphetamine and possession of cannabis.

Paul Mabey, Rudd’s attorney is quoted as stating of the matter, “The charge alleging an attempt to procure murder should never have been laid. The Crown Solicitor’s opinion was not sought. The charge is now withdrawn – within 24 hours of Mr Rudd’s first appearance in Court… Mr Rudd has suffered unnecessary and extremely damaging publicity as a result of widespread and sensational reporting of a very serious allegation, which on any basis was never justified.”
