New York – The captain of a Southwest Airlines plane that made a crash landing at LaGuardia Airport last year is stated to have reduced the power of the plane before the landing. As reported by Bloomberg, a report released by the National Transportation Safety Board indicates the captain announced she was taking over the landing after reducing the power.

The captain was reportedly fired following the incident. The crash landing is stated to have led to the injuries of nine people and significant damage to the aircraft.

As noted in the report, the actions of the pilot may have been in violation of safety rules outlined by the airline; however this has yet to be concluded by the NTSB.

Brandy King, a spokeswoman for Dallas-based Southwest Airlines, is quoted in the report as stating, “We continue to cooperate with the NTSB and look forward to the final report.”
