New Jersey – Reality stars Joe and Teresa Giudice have been sentenced to jail time in connection with a fraud case. As reported by ABC News, Teresa Giudice received a 15-month sentence and Joe Giudice is set to serve three and a half years behind bars.
As noted in the ABC News report, it is unclear whether Joe Giudice, who is not a citizen of the U.S., will be deported after serving his sentence.
Prosecutors alleged in the case that the “Real Housewives of New Jersey” stars failed to file tax returns and list certain assets pre-sentencing. The couple was charged with multiple counts of bankruptcy and loan fraud. They entered a guilty plea in March.
U.S. District Court Judge Esther Salas is quoted in the report as stating to the couple after the defense partly attributed the fraud to the couple’s attempt to keep up appearances, “Your four daughters need to understand discipline. If you don’t have it you shouldn’t spend it…If they won’t like you because you’re not driving a Benz or walking on Jimmy Choos or Manolo Blahniks then they’re not your friends.”
