Social media mourns death of Joan Rivers

New York – Numerous celebrities and fans of legendary comedian Joan Rivers have offered an outpouring of heartfelt comments on social media following her death. As reported by WebProNews, Rivers died Thursday after suffering complications that resulted from undergoing throat surgery.

After going into cardiac arrest, Rivers was placed into a medically induced coma. Her condition reportedly remained serious as doctors tried to bring her out of the coma Wednesday.

Rivers’ daughter, Melissa, announced the death of her mother in a Facebook post in which she stated, “It is with great sadness that I announce the death of my mother, Joan Rivers. She passed peacefully at 1:17pm surrounded by family and close friends. Mt son and I would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Mount Sinai Hospital for the amazing care they provided for my mother.”

Fellow celebrity comedians like Bob Saget, Whoopi Goldberg, and Ellen DeGeneres offered condolences on social media.

DeGeneres is quoted as stating in a Twitter post, “Joan Rivers will always be a pioneer. She paved the way for a lot of comedians. I’m very sad she’s gone.”
