Santa Ana, CA – The estate of Anna Nicole Smith has lost in a final effort to obtain an estimated $44 million from the estate of her late ex-husband. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the bid was rejected by a federal judge Monday, seven years after Smith’s death.

The battle over millions that Smith claimed Texas billionaire J. Howard Marshall promised to leave her has been ongoing for nearly two decades. The oil tycoon left $1.6 billion to his son in his will and did not leave anything to Smith.

U.S. District Court Judge David O. Carter is quoted by the AP as stating in his decision to deny a request by Smith’s estate to sanction E. Pierce Marshall’s estate, “Time spent litigating the relationship between Vickie Lynn and J. Howard has extended for nearly five times the length of their relationship and nearly twenty times the length of their marriage. It is neither reasonable nor practical to go forward.”

Smith died in 2007 of an accidental drug overdose.
