Brazil – Eduardo Campos, a well-known politician who was campaigning for presidency in Brazil, has died in a plane crash. As reported by CNN, Campos was among seven people killed in the crash, which occurred in the coastal city of Santos, Brazil.

The Cessna 560XL reportedly crashed after the aircraft was preparing to land, and swerved due to inclement weather.

Campos, 49, was running for the first time in the presidential election for the Brazilian Socialist Party.

Incumbent President Dilma Rousseff, who was also among the leading candidates in the election, is quoted as stating of Campos’ death via Twitter, “All of Brazil is in mourning. Today we lost a great Brazilian, Eduardo Campos. We lost a great friend.”
