Pennsylvania – The death of an 8-year-old boy remains under investigation after his mother claims she was told of his death after smelling a foul odor in their home. As reported by Reuters, the father of Jarrod Tutko, Jr., who is one of five of the couple’s children with special needs, was arrested in connection with his death after the mother called police about the revelation.

The mother, Kimberly Tutko, reportedly had not seen the child, who was being cared for by his father, in years due to fears of carrying an infection to another child she was caring for in a separate area of the home. The boy was reportedly prone to smearing feces on himself.

An autopsy on the child was being performed on Monday. Jarrod Nicholas Tutko, 38, was charged with child endangerment, abuse of a corpse, and concealing the death of a child and held on $500,000 bail.

The family’s remaining children have been removed from the home and placed in the custody of Dauphin County child welfare authorities.
