Iowa – A man sued in connection with a fatal boat crash has offered to hand over money from an insurance policy if he could be cleared of future damages. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), a lawyer for 22-year-old Joseph Schier Jr. proposed the offer in documents filed in court.

Schier Jr. offered $300,000 from an insurance claim, pending a judge’s approval that he be absolved of further damages in the fatal boating accident case. The accident, which occurred when Schier and another man were transporting party goers in jon boats that crashed into one another in 2012, resulted in the deaths of four people and injury to six others.

As noted in the report, lawyers for those killed in the accident and two of those injured are seeking to have hearings held so a determination can be made regarding whether Schier’s assets could cover judgments in the lawsuits if they are successful.
