Gunman opens fire in Delaware hospital

Delaware – Two people were shot by a gunman who opened fire inside a Delaware County hospital on Thursday. As reported by The Philadelphia Inquirer, a female caseworker was killed and a psychiatrist was wounded in the shooting at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital in Delaware County.

Delaware County District Attorney Jack Whelan stated that the injured psychiatrist is believed to have used his own weapon to fire back at the gunman. The doctor is expected to recover from the incident.

The suspect was shot in the arm and torso, and was undergoing surgery at a different hospital following the shooting, as police continued their investigation.

Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital is quoted as releasing he statement regarding the incident, “This is a tragic event for our hospital and for our community, and we are praying for the safety of the victims. We are grateful for the efforts of the emergency responders, and we are working with the Delaware County Police Departments to understand fully the details of the event and to do all we can to assist those affected.”
