New York – Pop megastar Madonna showed up for jury duty in Manhattan on Monday, but only briefly. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the singer was dismissed within two hours after arriving at the state courthouse, and was not questioned for a case.

As noted in the report, Madonna had also been excused from jury duty in May. State court system spokesman David Bookstaver said the entertainer was released Monday due to there being a sufficient number of prospective jurors and officials not wanting her appearance to be a distraction to the process.

Bookstaver is quoted by the AP as stating, “The greater good here is that her appearance really goes to show that everyone gets called… The intent here was not to create a distraction to other jurors or the business of the court.”
