Illinois – A cancer patient is pursing a lawsuit against Trader Joe’s and its suppliers, alleging he suffered a bacterial infection caused by tainted food he purchased from the grocer. As reported by the Chicago Tribune, the man, Vladimir Sokhatskiy, filed the suit Wednesday against a Northbrook Trader Joe’s after eating from a container of Trader Joe’s Egg White Salad with Chives purportedly made him ill.

The egg white salad was recalled by its supplier Lansal Inc. on June 8, as noted in the report. An announcement on the website of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration says the food product sold in several states were at risk of having been contaminated by Listeria bacteria.

Sokhatskiy stated in the filing that he was hospitalized as a result of the infection, and subsequently developed meningitis. He is seeking over $150,000 in damages.
