New York – A man caused a disturbance on a JetBlue flight over the weekend, leading the Las Vegas bound flight to be diverted to Detroit. As reported by CBS News, authorities were considering bringing criminal charges against the passenger over his outburst, during which he had to be restrained.

The passenger reportedly began yelling in a foreign language, while standing in his seat part of the way through the flight after it took off from New York. He was subsequently restrained, with his wrist bound by plastic handcuffs, but he was moved away from other passengers after managing to kick his own daughter during his outburst.

CBS News travel editor Peter Greenberg, who says alcohol is often a factor in these types of situations, is quoted in the report as stating, “Flying is a stressful situation for many passengers, and when they’re left to their own resources when waiting for a plane, a lot of them will drink.”

The passenger was taken to a nearby hospital after Detroit airport police determined he required medical assistance.
