US – Hospital vending machines are set to get a healthy makeover and offer better nutritional options. As reported by the NWI Times, in accordance with the Affordable Care Act, vending machine operators who own at least 20 vending machines are now required to disclose what the calorie content of items are.

Vending machines at the Franciscan Alliance hospitals are among those to be changed to include healthier food and drink options as well as an interactive screen that shows the nutritional value of items prior to purchase.

Cathy Estes, regional director of nutrition services for Franciscan Alliance, is quoted as stating of the difference, “You can make informed decisions.”
