Brooklyn – Two Brooklyn elementary school students were arrested after being accused of putting rat poison in a teacher’s water bottle. As reported by The New York Times, the students, ages 9 and 12, were charged with assault and reckless endangerment after being suspected of putting the poison in the water bottle of a teacher at Public School 315.

The teacher took a drink of the water bottle, but was recovering from the incident at the time of the report. The mother of a child who had witnessed the students putting something in the teacher’s drink alerted the school about what happened.

Devora Kaye, a spokeswoman for the New York City Education Department, is quoted as staying of the matter in a statement, “Ensuring the safety of our entire school community is our priority, and while this matter is still under investigation, we will take swift and appropriate action.”
