New York – Sante Kimes, the woman who along with her son was convicted of two murders including that of a wealthy New York widow, has died in prison at the age of 79. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Kimes was found unresponsive in her cell at the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility in Westchester County, a state Department of Corrections spokesperson said Tuesday.

Kimes and her son Kenneth Kimes were convicted in 2000 following the disappearance of 82-year-old widow Irene Silverman. The notorious grifter duo was accused of conspiring to steal her New York townhome valued at $7 million. The body of Silverman has never been found.

The mother and son were also later convicted for businessman David Kazdin’s 1998 death.

A television movie was made about the Kimeses staring Mary Tyler Moore and Gabriel Olds in 2001.
