Sudan – A pregnant woman was sentenced to death by a Sudanese court over her refusal to recant her Christian faith. As reported by CNN, the woman Meriam Yehya Ibrahim, 27, was convicted of apostasy and remains in prison with her young son. She is 8-months pregnant.

The Khartoum court also convicted Ibrahim of adultery due to her marriage to a Christian man being invalid in accordance with Sharia law. She has been sentenced to 100 lashes for that conviction.

Human rights advocates across the globe have condemned the sentences. Her attorneys plan to appeal.

Attorney Mohamed Jar Elnabi, who is representing Ibrahim, is quoted in the report as stating of the woman, β€œShe is very strong and very firm. She is very clear that she is a Christian and that she will get out one day.”
