Texas – Restaurant chain Chipotle is implementing a new policy asking customers not to bring guns into its stores. As reported by MSNBC, the policy change comes after a group of people brought guns into one of its Texas store chains as part of an “open carry” demonstration.

An exception to the policy is being made for authorized law enforcement. Other stores such as Starbucks have implemented similar policies. The group Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, which petitioned the restaurant chain, said Chipotle’s choice was a “bold statement.”

Chipotle is quoted as releasing the statement regarding the policy, “We acknowledge that there are strong arguments on both sides of this issue … But this issue is not central to the operation of our business, and we do not feel that our restaurants should be used as a platform for either side of the debate.”
