Los Angeles – Permanent guardianship has been determined for “Modern Family” star Ariel Winter. As reported by Yahoo! Celebrity, the actress’ sister, Shanelle Gray, was granted permanent guardianship of Winter by a Los Angles judge after a lengthy custody battle sparked by allegations that the actress was physically and emotionally abused by her mother.

The agreement was announced on Monday, just days ahead of the date the guardianship trial was set to start. According to the guardianship terms, which are effective until her 18th birthday, Winter will live with her sister and brother-in-law, and can visit her mother if she chooses.

Winter is quoted in the report as stating to Teen Vogue last year when speaking about her family issues, “I didn’t know my sister much growing up, and I wasn’t really allowed to see her… I know now that my sister is the type of person I’d aspire to grow up to be like. It’s really interesting how close you can get with somebody in such a short period.”
