Minnesota – A Waseca teen has been charged in connection with an alleged plot to kill members of his family and others. As reported by Reuters, 17-year-old John David LaDue is stated to have idolized a gunman from the 1999 Columbine High School shootings and planned to carry out an attack at his own school on April 20, the 15th anniversary of the massacre.

According to Minnesota police, LaDue outlined his plans in a journal.

Waseca Police Captain Kris Markeson is quoted as stating to a news conference, “We believe that LaDue planned to carry out his attack within the next few weeks.”

Someone called police after becoming suspicious of a person carrying a backpack into a storage unit. Responders found LaDue and materials for making a bomb after searching the unit.

LaDue, who remains in custody, faces multiple charges including four counts of attempted first-degree murder.
