California – Toyota’s U.S. headquarters is getting a new home. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the company announced Monday that it would be moving the base of its operation in the country from California to Texas.

Approximately 3,000 jobs will be transferred to the new corporate campus in Plano, Texas, while an estimated 2,300 will remain in California after the move.

Jim Lentz, who became Toyota’s first CEO for North America in 2013, is quoted by the AP as stating of making the decision after scaling the list of 100 potential places down to four, “As we visited those four primary locations, it became quite clear that the Dallas metro area was far and above the best choice.”

As noted in the report, Plano residents have one of the highest average incomes in the nation at $81,000. The corporate headquarters of Cigna Corp., Hewlett-Packard Co. and Pepsico Inc.’s Frito Lay are also located there.
