Philadelphia – Several people have been charged in connection with an alleged insurance scam perpetrated by a Center City personal injury attorney. As reported by The Philadelphia Inquirer, District Attorney Seth Williams recently announced the charges faced by 45 people who stand accused of helping Andrew H. Gaber, 52, a sole practitioner, stage fraudulent slip-and-fall claims.

Gaber committed suicide on April 15 while charges were pending against him. Prior to his death, the grand jury recommended he be charged with fraud and other related counts. The grand jury said that 21 insurance companies had been defrauded of nearly $400,000 in connection with the scheme.

Williams stated during the announcement of the investigation that it showed “my office will not give lawyers who commit white-collar crimes a free pass.” He also gave condolences to the wife and children of Gaber.

Marc Neff, who represented Gaber in the fraud investigation, is quoted as stating of the attorney, “This case itself was basically a small part of his practice, and we were preparing to defend this case at trial… Unfortunately, he leaves behind a lovely wife and two young children who are saddled with this loss.”
